Research Notes
- The Essex Newsman (25/Feb/1871) reported that labourer John Smith of Forest Street, Forest Gate, had assaulted greengrocer William Hitchcock and his wife on 16 February. Smith was found guilty, fined and given 21 days hard labour. No other person by the name of "William Hitchcock" has been found who was a greengrocer in the area at that time, so perhaps this is actually Charles William Hitchcock?
