The Man Who Knew Too Much
Alfred Hitchcock; UK 1934; Carlton; £5.99; B/W; Certificate U
We don't get Doris Day singing 'Que Sera Sera' but this original British version is still as strong as Hitchcock's 1955 US remake. Peter Lorre (in one of his first English-language roles) is at his most creepy and insidious as Abbott, the kidnapper/terrorist, Hitchcock makes imaginative use of the London locations, and the Albert Hall denouement remains one of his most accomplished set pieces.
